Bidding Prayers – 21st September

God of Life, in today’s Gospel we hear that we cannot serve both you and wealth. So we come to you seeking courage and resolve to follow you more closely, even when it involves making personal sacrifices.

We pray for Pope Leo, as he takes a stance on economic polarisation in our world. May we follow his example of compassionate concern and stand up for justice and fairness.

We pray for those who live in fear in a climate of prejudice and hatred. We ask God to comfort them and keep them safe. May we learn to promote love and peace in our own spheres, and may the ripples spread outwards.

We pray for those who are caught up in prejudice and hatred, and for communities were intolerance prevails. May God touch hearts and minds, to see God in everyone. And when they do see it, may they find the courage to stand up and be counted as peacemakers, and find a new purpose in life.

We hold before God those in positions of power and leadership; that they might be guided by the Holy Spirit and exercise their influence with a commitment to love and justice. In all they do, may they endeavour to serve others rather than to be served.

We pray for those caught up in conflict and war, and we pray for peace in the wider world. May the hearts of the warmongers be changed and become filled with compassion and the love of God.

We take a moment for personal prayer…

God of grace, we commit our prayers to you, in the certain knowledge that you hear and respond. Amen.
