Readings – 26th October

The Old Testament reading is taken from the Prophet, Isaiah, chapter 45, verses 22-25

22 ‘Turn to me and be saved,

   all you ends of the earth;

   for I am God, and there is no other.

23 By myself I have sworn,

   my mouth has uttered in all integrity

   a word that will not be revoked:

before me every knee will bow;

   by me every tongue will swear.

24 They will say of me, “In the Lord alone

   are deliverance and strength.”’

All who have raged against him

   will come to him and be put to shame.

25 But all the descendants of Israel

   will find deliverance in the Lord

   and will make their boast in him.

This is the word of the Lord

The Epistle is taken from Paul’s letter to the Romans, chapter 15, verses 1-6

15 We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2 Each of us should please our neighbours for their good, to build them up. 3 For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: ‘The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.’ 4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, 6 so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
