Lord, you saved Peter when he called out to you for help. Today, we also bring you ourselves, our prayers, hopes, dreams and everyone in our beautiful and fragile world.
Peter called upon Jesus at a moment of great need. May all religious leaders find, in Jesus, the support and wisdom to guide those who depend on them.
We pray for our world, especially remembering the regions facing devastation from wildfires. May the Lord strengthen and bring relief to those who work for the emergency services and all who are fighting to protect life and land.
We pray for everyone affected by the recent earthquake in Japan: for anybody who has been injured, bereaved or is still searching for loved ones. May aid reach every place of need and may people find hope and comfort in their sadness.
We pray for all those who are sick and troubled, perhaps feeling overwhelmed by the storms of life. May the Lord’s outstretched hand help them to find courage and peace.
We pray for peacemakers. May their work bring a just and lasting end to conflict, wherever it might be. May there be an end to war and bloodshed.
We pray for children and young people, especially during this holiday season. May they be surrounded by love so that they learn to share that love with their families, friends and the people they meet.
We pray for everyone who is preparing to go on holiday. May they travel safely, enjoy their rest and return home refreshed and renewed.
Father, hear the prayers we offer in faith. Calm our fears, strengthen our hope, and draw us ever closer to your Son, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.
